Baby Bins!

We have started to work on some 'school' with Tatum.  I found a FANTASTIC resource, MRSPLEMONSKINDERGARTEN, this woman is terrific.  She is a kindergarten teacher, turned SAHM, and has taken her knowledge base and come up with some really awesome ideas and projects.

She has broken her curriculum down into some pretty simple groupings: Baby Bins, Tot School, and preschool.  The baby bins were created with the 1-2 year old in mind. Tot school is for the 2 and 3 year old and preschool is for 3 and up.  I have found that themes and ideas reoccur in every age group, so the kidlets exposed to the idea multiple times in ways their little minds can understand.

We are going to stick pretty close to her schedule, but since we started two weeks late, we are taking out two of the color themes: gray and pink.  I also have decided to go with her exact curriculum, with the few exceptions for activities that may need to be adjusted slightly for Tatum's ability level. She offers a great price, only $50, for her entire set of "Baby Bins" materials: printables, templates, how to's, lists of material needed, list of books, etc.

Here is a list of basic materials I needed to really get this project off its feet and running:

  • Baby Bins curriculum from mrsplemonskindergarten
  • Clear bin/tote for sensory bin use
  • 5 binders: Shapes, Colors, Animals, Seasonal, as well as one for Weekly use
  • dividers
  • 20 packages of page protectors
  • laminator and 100 laminating pouches
You could definitely get by without the laminator, but I'm hoping to be able to use these materials through both boys, so I wanted them to last.

I also went ahead and bought the following materials, just so that we could be in sync with the material. These items, while not necessary, I thought would be useful enough to buy:

  • megablocks
  • magnatiles
  • mr.potato head
  • a few varying sets of "Little People" toys
  • a "little Blue Truck"
  • toy cars in various colors
  • toy bugs in various forms and colors
  • various plastic animals

This list is just items that I saw that were used across multiple themes.  Each specific theme will have a few more items that I will need to purchase as we get closer to that particular theme ie- plastic pumpkins, spider rings, and other seasonal items that come up.

Of course, there are crafts galore, so raid your craft supplies and make sure you have plenty of the following:

  • construction paper
  • contact paper
  • paint
  • paint brushes
  • sponges
  • glitter
  • pompoms
  • pipe cleaners
  • craft foam
  • popsicle sticks
We are starting this week with the RED theme, and are super excited about sharing this with you guys.

We will post all about our first weeks with Baby Bins soon!

Let them eat CAKE......

As I mentioned, I've been getting back into a little cake making and decorating.  I'm by no means a professional, but I do enjoy playing around with it a little bit....the downside...I dont eat cake....so I make them and give them away....I guess that's better than sitting and eating a whole cake....dont get me started on pizza or fries however...i can truly embarrass myself eating that stuff!

I definitely need to continue to work on my skills, namely the ganache and the smoothing of the cakes, but as I said, its just something I kinda enjoy doing!

Anyways, here are a few I did the last couple weeks or so-

Red Velvet Cheesecake Cake: 2 layers of red velvet cake, middle layer is cheesecake, topped with a whipped cream cheese buttercream and red ganache.

Cannoli Cake: Triple layers of vanilla cake, filled with a chocolate chip marscapone and topped with a light cinnamon whipped cream. Serbian hazelnut wafer cookies surround the cake with a milk chocolate ganache.

Reeses Peanut butter Cake:This sad looking little guy was actually prettier in other pictures and tasted awesome I guess.  It was for my dads birthday.  Triple layers of dark chocolate cake, filled and iced with creamy peanut butter frosting and a nice thick layer of chopped reeses peanut butter cups in the middle.  There is a thick fudgey ganache on top that I completely didnt thin out enough so it looks like l just splattered fudge on...

Family Happenings

I haven't done a post with a family update in quite a while, since pre-covid, so I thought it was about time.

Louis: Gawd, where to start.  He works so hard and takes really good care of us.  He is still excelling in his career and once again, major things are happening and he could be looking at a rather large promotion here in the next month or so.

About a month ago, a gentlemen in the Dallas area reached out to Louis and commissioned him to do some batman work. This guy has 1 of 500 original masks that were created off the Michael Keaton films and he is wanting a replica mask made that he can actually wear, while keeping the original mask on display in his media room.  Louis was more than happy to jump on the opportunity.  All of his work has been on the Christian Bale films, so this was a new challenge, and definitely one he has really enjoyed working on.

Meagan: I'm boring.  As you all know I don't work any longer.  My stint at Fred Meyer literally lasted less than a month.  Then corona hit and I definitely wasn't exposing my self or my family to some crazy "ish" for 10 bucks an hour.  I did enjoy it while it lasted...kinda nice to get outta the house a few hours, a couple days a week, but now with the new baby coming and having 2 under 2, we have no plans in the near future for me to resume working.

Im keeping my self busy working on some Tot school with Tatum, and of course the typical cooking, cleaning and errand running part of life.  I've also started to work on the babies nursery as well as their bathroom and playroom which both will be getting complete makeovers prior to babesens arrival.

Ive been getting back into cake making a little bit too.  Not working with fondant so much as just making some pretty and yummy cakes.  I'll share some photos on the next post.

Rachel:  Has just started her sophomore year of high school, and is doing so virtually.  She continues to draw some amazing pictures and her talent is just blooming....it's amazing actually.  She still plays violin and piano, going on close to 10 years of each.  She is looking forward to taking drivers ed as soon as the world returns to normal.

Bella: Is in 9th grade, which in the Boise school district is still jr high, so fortunately, she HOPEFULLY will have the opportunity to actually start high school in person.  So far, school this year has been online.  She loves to skateboard and is super good at it.  She spends all her free time with her friends down at Rhodes, and actually got the chance to skate with some professional skateboarders the other day.  She is working to save money for her Thailand trip this summer, she is required to come up with her own spending money.

Zoe: Has started the 7th grade this year, which puts her in her first year of jr high, which unfortunately for her, has been online this year.  It's a bummer for these kids that have to not only start a new school, but also a new type of school- learning how to change classes, mess with your locker, all that stuff....they're gonna be thrown in one day, with no prior exposure.  c'est la vie.  She is still in horseback riding and recently got a new horse named Howdy.  She has a show coming up on Halloween that she has been working on.  She also still swims on the BSU swim team.

Tatum: Is my fat, happy, lazy little man.  He is already 16 months old, but has no interest in acting like it.  He doesn't walk or talk.  He is content to totally chill and is the happiest, most content dude around.  However, before he falls too far behind, we have started some work with the Idaho infant and Toddler program, to get him caught up to where he needs to be. We have just started the assessments, so we will see where we end up and what the plan is.  I seem to be more concerned than they are, but its been difficult for me to not compare his milestone achievement rate to that of Bella and Zoe, which at this age apparently, is apples and oranges between female and male toddlers.

Baby 2:  As you all know, it's another little boy! yay!  We agreed Louis could name a boy and I'd name the girl.  He's thrown around a few different names, but hasn't settled on one. I will tell you guys, it seems that it will be a classic name, as those are what he's been leaning towards, but ya never know I guess!

We will be 12 weeks on Saturday and that will be the end of the first trimester!! woohoo! I have had my share of exhaustion, vomiting, headaches and boob aches.  Hoping as we near the end of the first trimester, that the symptoms will start to fade.

We're hoping to do a VBAC this birth.  It is a bit more risky since my two prior births have been c-section, but the risk isn't huge, and the benefits to a vaginal birth are enough for me to consider it.  The benefit to a c-section is that they could just do a tubal ligation immediately following the birth.....we are having no mas babies!

Anywho, that is about all there is to report for now...will post some pics in a few days....thats the good stuff anyways right?!?!
