Snowshoeing

About a week ago I went up to our local ski resort, Bogus Basin, with Bella to do the annual 5th grade Snow School field trip.

Basically, they divide you up into 4 or 5 groups, you all strap on snow shoes, which are provided to you through Bogus, and then with your leader guiding you, start trekking through the forest.  At first you stay on trails, but then you eventually wander off trails looking for animal tracks and that kind of thing.  We dug holes and measured the temperature of the snow at the top of our pit vs the bottom of our pits, ran experiments to see how much water you actually get from the snow melting and talked about various water sheds in the treasure valley.  It was educational and a gorgeous day to be up in the mountains, soaking up the sunshine and fresh air! :)

On the bus, getting ready to head up the mountain.

This is difficult to tell what is going on, but that is a huge igloo that Bella is sitting in.  Those are her little snow shoes sticking out the hole.

This is the place where they measure the actual snow fall on Bogus, there is a measuring stick over by the silver contraption.
