Salt Lake City, Part I

We just got back from the first family vacay of the summer, and let me tell ya....it was AWESOME!
We went down to Salt Lake for a few days and had a blast.  Here are the first bunch of pictures from our trip!

The first day we drove down and took our time getting there.  If there was something we wanted to stop and see we did it, we took our time at lunch and just enjoyed being on the road together as a family.

On the road!!

SUPER excited and ready to go! Yes, she is wearing her Minnie Mouse ears from Disney World....don't ask me why. :)

I'm excited too!

We decided to stop in Twin Falls at the Snake River Canyon and check it out for a minute before heading into town for some lunch. :)

The Snake River cut through ancient basalt lava flows, forming this canyon that extends for more than fifty miles and features two major waterfalls and countless springs. The majestic Perrine Bridge spans the canyon nearly 500 feet above the Snake River near the site of famous daredevil Evel Knievel’s unsuccessful 1974 jump across the canyon. The Perrine Bridge is popular with BASE jumpers as the only location in the U.S. open to BASE jumping year-round.

Lunch at Culvers.  For those of you who aren't familiar with Culvers, it's a hamburger chain, originating in the Midwest. It's gaining popularity all over the place.  I originally started eating at Culvers when I lived in Austin, TX.  When I moved to Iowa, they were all over of course, so I ate there all the time, but now I haven't had Culvers since being in Iowa- 9 years ago! I was so excited and it was just as good as I remembered!

After we left Twin Falls we eventually passed a billboard that said they had alpacas at some gas station that you could pet. Unable to resist that little goody, we stopped.  We weren't able to pet any alpacas, they WERE there, just laying down, but we were able to pet some other little buddies!

Once we got to Salt Lake we checked into our room and the girls immediately jumped into the pool for an hour or two. Then we all got ready to hit the road again to head to dinner.

We had dinner at this awesome restaurant in Ogden called The Prairie Schooner.  It is a steak house with an Old West type them, but the BEST part is every table is a Covered Wagon that you get to sit in.  The wagon are all set up around a scene in the middle- pioneers, animals, camp fires, etc.  It was so much fun and the girls thought it was amazing.
